Class 35. In an alternator whose stator winding is cooled by oil or water forced through hollow conductors each bar consists of two or more vertical ranks of transposed insulated conductors which are alternately solid and hollow, and the ranks are so mutually staggered that no two solid conductors 1 are in contact, and each solid conductor (except the corner conductors) has at least three sides cooled by hollow conductors 2. The conductors may be twisted to reduce losses and are brazed or welded together at their ends, connections to outlet and inlet headers for the cooling fluid fed to the bars being made through junction boxes fixed to the ends of the bars.
