Packeting cigarettes in receptacles.-In apparatus in which wrappers, trays, &c., charged with cigarettes, are pushed into slides, the plunger 18 for effecting this is provided with a thin curved blade spring 40 which is adapted to bear down on end of the front flap 31 of the inner wrapper to prevent fouling during entry into the shell. In a modification, Fig. 2, a fixed cam-plate 42 acts on a stem 47 and depresses the forward end of the plunger during its travel. The tappet 70, for pushing the empty shell 41 forward during the act of entry, is geared at 74, 75 to the expelling tappet 73. The forward movement of the tappet 70 is capable of adjustment by a screw 83 acting against a spring 81.
