Abstract
865,953. Cigarette trays. YOUNGMAN, D. H., and MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. June 5, 1959 [June 6, 1958], No. 18244/58. Class 66. A tray 1 for supplying cigarettes to the hopper of a packing machine comprises a bottom wall 6 of flexible material one end 7 of which is fixed to an end wall of the tray, and slotted guides 4 for supporting the spindle of a roller 5 around which the flexible material is passed, one end 8 of the material extending back outside the tray. The wall 6 may be of canvas and is prevented from sagging by a block 9 thereon which engages the end wall of the tray. The roller 5 is held in the position shown in Fig. 1 by a catch which is released in order to enable the roller 5 to travel along the guides 4 when the end 8 of the flexible material is pulled by an operator, thereby emptying the tray. The catch, as shown in Fig. 4, is in the form of a spring catch 11 which is tripped by engaging an abutment 12 on the hopper side. The flexible material may be wound on a spindle 14 by a spring in a housing 13, Fig. 5, instead of being pulled by the operator.
