Steam cooking-apparatus. - In an apparatus for treating peat to form food for animals, the peat is treated in a boiler a for about four hours with steam at 121‹ C. admitted by a perforated pipe u, at a pressure of five to six atmospheres, preferably by the admission of compressed air through a perforated pipe g. The air is forced by an air-compressor d through a wind-chest f, the pipe g being provided outside the boiler with non-return valves r. The peat rests on a perforated plate o and the liquid formed, which is kept at the required temperature by a steam coil b, is continually pumped by a pump t on to the fibre contained in the boiler a. The liquid is finally removed by a pipe p.
