Abstract

7615. Hughes, G. R. March 31. Syringes. - In making an hypodermic glass syringe, the neck is given a globular or elliptical shape before being ground to receive the needle socket. In order to mix a drug or powder with the fluid contents of the syringe, a chamber of glass &c. is provided at one end to contain the drug, and this chamber is fractured, unstoppered, &c. when the drug is to be mixed with the fluid. In one form the drug is enclosed in a chamber F by means of a stopper H in a perforation in the piston G. The piston-rod is passed through the passage J and engages an indentation f in the flanged end of the chamber F so as to push out the stopper H and allow the drug to mix with the fluid.
