Abstract

5921. Butterfield, J. C. March 10. Carbonizing processes. - Sewage and like organic refuse, together with petroleum or the like, is heated in a retort to a low temperature. for example 500-800‹ F., and the fatty bodies contained in the condensed ammoniacal liquor are collected. The retort residue is heated in another retort to a temperature of 1000-1200‹F., leaving a residue which may be used for the precipitation of a fresh portion of sewage. By repeated use, the residue becomes rich in phosphoric acid and may be used as a manure. Specification 19,502/05 is referred to.
