5442. Gee, W. J., and Coulson & Co., M. March 4. Rotary washing-apparatus.-In an apparatus for washing China-clay and separating it from stones &c., of the type comprising an inclined rotating cylinder a provided internally with one or more helical ribs b, the material is fed from a hopper d to the required part of the cylinder by means of a trough c, which may be made of removable plates c<1>, one or more of which may be removed as at c<2>; or a number of openings in the trough, preferably towards the lower end, may be arranged to be uncovered where required. The material is moved down the trough c by means of an endless belt e provided with prongs e<1>, the upper bearing l of the belt being preferably arranged in the hopper d and surrounded by a shield o. Water is supplied to the hopper d, trough c, and cylinder a by pipes f, f<1>, f<2>. The stones &c. are conveyed up the cylinder by the rib b and are discharged at the upper end, while the water carrying the China-clay in suspension passes out at the lower end. The cylinder is rotated by means of friction wheels g.
