Gearing for stopping and starting machinery. -Relates to the starting and stopping mechanism of a cutting-out press of the single-revolution type, which comprises a brake and a positive stop for the driving- shaft and a safetydevice for preventing a second actuation of the press even though the operating-treadle should remain depressed. Specification 14,413/11 is referred to. Depression of a treadle G', loose on a shaft F, serves through a trip face H<2> on a rod H, to rock a spring-controlled dog I<1> on the cross-head A<3> of the press, thereby freeing an abutment I<2> thereon from an arm K secured to the shaft F. This shaft, under spring action, then secures through suitable link-work (not shown) the clutching of the operating-shaft A<5> with the driving power and the release of a brake B controlling this operating-shaft. The descent of the press lowers the dog I<1>, which, under the action of a spring plunger J, swings into a position to secure the re-engagement of the parts I<2>, K, whereby, on the ascent of the press the arm K is rocked to de-clutch the machine and, through the straightening of the toggles E, E', to apply the brake. A stop I<3>, J<2> is provided to limit the swinging movement of the dog I'. The release of the treadle, to secure the re-engagment of the parts H<2>, I<1>, is necessary before the machine can be again operated.
