Abstract

4796. Logan, H. T. Feb. 25. Mechanical toys. - A skating or gliding motion is given to a toy figure by supporting the figure on castors m, Fig. 1, capable of a limited angular movement on vertical pivots n in the foot portions of the toy, and then causing the legs of the figure to open and close alternately. In the form shown, the opening and closing of the legs is effected by clock-work through connecting - rods c, d and cranks e, f which form the leg pivots. The deflexion of the castors is limited by the edges o of the skates. The forward movement of the toy is produced by the component of the resistance of the supporting- surface at each castor resolved in the plane of the castor.
