Abstract

4653. Hunt, G. G., and Frain, E. B. Feb. 24. Vices.-A quick-acting vice has a friction sleeve 8 mounted upon the feed-screw 14 and having slots 10 engaged by projecting pivots 11 on a threaded element or half-nut 12 which is adapted on rotation of the screw to be brought into engagement with it by a fixed rod 20 engaging the cam-faces 18 of the half-nut. A stop 19 on the half-nut limits the motion of the sleeve and the opening movement of the half-nut, when the screw is rotated in a counter-clockwise direction, by engaging the rod 20. The mechanism for effecting the quick action is mounted within a frame having front, rear, and side walls 5, 6, 7 respectively, the front wall 5 forming a jaw of the vice.
