Abstract

2182. Atkinson, J. Jan. 27. Reel and endless-web apparatus. - A device for displaying suitings, or for advertising, comprises a plate A with parts representing a suit &c. cut out of it and a sheet of glass or celluloid B behind it, bearing marks representing buttons, seams, shading, &c., at the back of which cloth on an intermittently-driven endless - web D is exposed. Another intermittently-driven endless-web G is provided with openings, which coincide with the displayed figure whenever a sample of fabric is in position behind it. Sectors in the trains of wheels M', L<1> effect the intermittent movement of the webs D, G. The web D may however have its intermittent drive effected by a pair of chains U, Fig. 4, with tappets V, which engage crossbars W on the web and carry them over the upper roller and around the lower roller, leaving them there and proceeding to the crossbar which has then reached the upper roller. Screws Q, R and nuts q, r may regulate the tautness of the web. The display-opening may be illuminated from the front by lamps secured upon the frame-work. The front plate may be replaced by a reel-and-web device, and the web G may bear advertisements..
