Abstract

1854. Servais, E. Jan. 22. Producers.-In a gasproducer, the charge is cooled above the tuyeres 8 to a temperature below that at which slag is formed, by the introduction of steam or other vapour or gas, the decomposition of which absorbs heat, through nozzles 6. The slag pan c is heated by the combustion in a chamber 13 of gases introduced by a pipe 14, the combustion products escaping by an outlet 16 to a chimney. The air admitted by the tuyeres 8 passes through a heater 17 and is directed downwards on to the slag in the pan c and in a direction tangential to a circle within the producer, the steam also being admitted tangentially. The fuel may be employed in a divided condition without the necessity of briquetting, milk of lime being supplied to the charge. A flux such as blastfurnace slag, the composition of which comprises lime, alumina, silica, &c., may be used.
