Abstract
29,036. Hammer, L. G. Dec. 17. Telephones for deaf persons. - A telephone receiver for deaf persons is provided with a rheostat in series with the magnet coils for adjusting the intensity of the sounds heard. Bores such as 15 in an insulated block 12 contain the resistance bobbins connected to studs such as 9 with which contact is made by a wiper 14 mounted on a spindle 18 which can be turned from outside the casing by a handle 27 the motion of which is limited by stops. In one position the wiper 14 bears upon a wholly insulated stud so that the circuit is broken, but the circuit is normally completed through the metal casing of the instrument and the battery and transmitter. A spring washer (not shown) is provided between the face 25 of the insulation 12 and the collar 23 which bears upwards on the nut 22.
