Abstract

136,249. Free, W. R. Dec. 9, 1918. Sound-magnifying appliances.-A sound transmitting and amplifying device comprising an electrically-connected microphone and telephone receiver is mounted in the sound conduit of a gramophone or like machine. Fig. 1 shows the complete machine, Fig. 2 the microphone and receiver, and Fig. 3 the electrical connexions. A casing 22 placed in the neck of the horn 18 is divided by a partition 25 into two chambers, one containing a granular microphone 23, and the other a loud-speaking telephone 26. A conductor 29 passing through the partition 25 connects the terminals 27, 28, the other terminal wires being connected to a dynamo 34 through a rheostat 37. A shunt wire 40 is connected to one extremity of the resistance 37, and the current through the instruments 23, 26 is varied by rotating an arm 38 over contacts on the resistance by means of a knob 42, with an attached pointer moving over a dial 44. The dynamo 34 is driven from the gramophone motor 13.
