Abstract

28,943. Siemens Bros. & Co., [Siemens & Halske Akt.-Ges.]. Dec. 16. Specific-gravity estimating - apparatus. - In apparatus for indicating the density of a gaseous mixture, comparison between the pressure differences required to produce a certain acceleration in the gas mixture and a gas of known density is effected in a single-reading instrument. The pressure differences may be produced by a moving baffle or by a centrifugal blower. In one form, the two centrifugal blowers a, b, Fig. 1, fed with gas to be tested and the standard gas are mounted on a common shaft c and exhaust into the atmosphere so that the pressure at the periphery of the blowers is atmospheric. The pressures at the centres of the fans are communicated to diaphragm chambers h, i, the diaphragms of which are connected to opposite arms of a bell-crank lever f, which also carries an indicating-needle. Or the connexions from the membranes may be arranged to act at rightangles on a straight lever. The relation between the pressures may be shown electrically, for example contacts r, s, Fig. 3, connected to the diaphragms may move over resistances t, u in circuit with coils w of a d'Arsonval instrument. Or in the case of higher pressures these may be arranged to act on the mercury manometers 1, 2, Fig. 4, containing resistances 3, 4 in circuit with the galvanometer.
