[Class 1 (i)] Apparatus for determination of a constituent in a gaseous mixture comprises an arrangement whereby the gas is divided into two parallel streams in one of which is an absorption chamber and in the other a compensating chamber, a venturi or like device to produce an identical acceleration in each stream and pressure sensitive devices for comparing the reduced pressures resulting from the venturi devices. The apparatus comprises an absorption chamber 12, a baffled compensating chamber 13, an inlet 2. for the gas to be tested and an aspirator 19 for drawing the gas through the apparatus. The gas passes through a filter 1, drying chamber 6, and it may be through a chamber eliminating undesired gases, to an expansion chamber 10. From the latter the current is divided, one stream passing to the aspirator via diaphragm 22, absorber 12, and venturi 20, and the other via diaphragm 22a, compensator 13, and venturi 21. The differences of pressure at the venturis, which are an indirect measure of the amount of gas absorbed in absorber 12, are registered by suitable means, which, as shown, comprises the photo-electric comparator described in Specification 500,168, [Group XL], but may be a barometric bellows or a differential manometer. In a modified apparatus, the venturis and pressure-difference registering device are located ahead of the absorber and compensator and the diaphragms 22, 22a between the latter and the aspirator. The compensator may consist of a chamber enclosing adjustable vanes.
