Abstract

An indicator for maximum depression is used to indicate when the air filter on an internal combustion engine is choked. Limit values of depression are pre-determined by the manufacturer and indicate when cleaning or replacement is required. A maximum depression gauge comprises a lower container n1) with an intermediate collar (3) and upper cover (2). A piston (6) with shaft (4) sliding in the lower container forms an upper chamber (7) which is submitted to atmospheric pressure while a lower chamber (8) is submitted to the depression being measured and which enters via a passage (12) in the lower container. Sealed separation of the chambers is ensured by a diaphragm (13). Electrical contact is made for signalling when contact arms (4a, 5a) on contacts (4, 5) are allowed to contact a conducting ring (14) as the piston reaches a predetermined lower position.
