Abstract

28,928. Harvey, C. H. Dec. 16. Jib cranes; vehicle fittings and attachments. -A motor lorry having a removable body is provided with a collapsible telescopic crane which is used to remove the body from the lorry and is operated by the motor of the lorry. The cranepost comprises a revoluble tube 2 which is supported in sockets 3, 7 and carries a telescoping tube 1 raised and lowered within the tube 2 by rack-and-pinion gear. The jib is pivoted to the tube 1 and is supported in the working position by a pivoted strut 14. The lifting- rope 17 passes over pulleys through the jib and the crane-post to a drum driven by the motor. Collapsible struts to prevent overturning of the lorry comprise members 18 which are connected by ball-and-socket joints 19 to the lorry and to which are pivoted bars 20 carrying other pivoted bars 21 engaging with racks on the members 18. When the crane is not in use, the tube 1 is lowered and the strut 14 released so that the jib can rest on the cab of the lorry. For heavy loads, the crane-post may consist of two telescoping girders neither of which rotate, the jib being connected to the upper one by a ball-and-socket joint.
