Forming ropes of yarns or strands having contrary twists.-Ropes for raising and lowering ships' boats, and for other purposes, are rendered less liable to kink or buckle by forming the strands of yarns some of which are of right hand and the others of left-hand twist. A greater proportion may be of right-hand or lefthand twist, and a twist in either direction may be employed in forming the strands from the yarns or the rope from the strands. One-third of the number of yarns may form the core of the strand, and be surrounded by the remaining yarns.
