Abstract

26,660. Carey, R. F., and Waygood & Co., R. Nov. 20. Aspirating - apparatus, ejector; regulating.- An ejector used in a vacuum cleaning-installation can be started, regulated, or stopped by increasing or decreasing the pressure in an auxiliary pipe system by means of devices upon each tool. The actuating fluid passes from a pipe 19 through a piston valve 20 and pipe 21 to the ejector. A weighted lever 25 tends to hold the valve open, and the pressure on the underside of the diaphragm tends to close it. Pressure is supplied to the diaphragm by a pipe 23 in connexion with the pipe 19' and also by a bend 14 with the auxiliary pipe 10. A choking- valve 24 in the pipe 23 is set to allow of the passage of less fluid than can pass when all the starting-cocks on the pipe 10 are open. If one cock is opened, the pressure under the diaphragm is relieved, and the lever 25 forces the valve 20 down and allows the ejector to start. The discharge from the ejector may actuate a water-wheel driving a diaphragm pump to-compress air for the auxiliary pipe system; or, a portion of the discharge may be passed into a floating bell which may operate the piston valve either directly or by a diaphragm pump or bellows operated by the bell.
