Abstract

26,514. Montgomery, C. R. Nov. 19. Locking nuts.-A locking-washer of the kind having a spring tongue to engage the nut is formed as shown in Fig. 3, the division between the washer and the tongue b extending nearly all round the body of the washer. The bore of the washer is formed with teeth e which, as shown in Fig. 1, lie on a helix corresponding to the bolt thread. The washer is screwed on the bolt first, the tongue being held down while the nut is screwed up, during which process the teeth e are successively driven through the bolt thread. The tongue is finally allowed to rise and engages the nut as shown. Fig. 5 shows another form of tongue.
