Abstract

26,295. Magnetbremsen Ges. Jan. 9, [Convention date]. Skid; electric and magnetic.-In electrcmagnetic track brakes in which the braking action is transmitted to the vehicle by a carrier M' depending from the vehicle and engaging stops A', A<11> on the brake magnet M, the carrier or the stops are composed of, or separated from one another by, non-magnetic material, so as to maintain the carrier equidistant from the two stops and ensure a symmetrical distribution of the magnetic flux, thereby preventing the friction that would be produced by the carrier being drawn into contact with one of the stops by an unsymmetrical flux-distribution, and would resist the application of the brake to the rail. In the preferred form, layers of non-magnetic material C', C<11> are interposed between the carrier and stops. In a modification, a guide on the brake magnet maintains the carrier in a symmetrical position between the stops, at least during the first part of the downward movement.
