Abstract

[Also in Division B7] Electro-dynamic and mechanical braking arrangement for rail vehicles travelling in the classification tracks of a hump yard (see Division B7) comprises track rails 20 of U- shaped cross-section in the longitudinal channels of which conductors 22 are disposed carrying a current of a few thousand amperes which sets up a magnetic flux transversely to the vehicle wheels 21. Braking is effected by an eddy current force and also by a mechanical force supplied by movable brake bars 23.
