Abstract
25,912. Reeser, W. E. Jan. 19, [Convention date]. Fats and fatty oils, sulphuretted. Vegetable or animal oils or fats are halogenized at a temperature varying from 15 to 60 C. by treatment with a halogen, and the halogenized product is converted into a rubber-like substance by heating with sulphur at a temperature of 150-200 C. or higher. The oil or fat may be dissolved in an inert solvent, such as carbon bisulphide or chloroform, prior to halogenizing. and the halogen acid formed may be washed out, expelled by inert gas, or precipitated. The solvent is subsequently expelled. The elastic product may be washed in a roller machine. The treatment may be applied to castor oil. rape-seed oil, linseed oil, wood oil, fish oil, bone fat, &c.
