Abstract
25,790. Pettingell Machine Co., and Knight, G. L. Nov. 9. Tenoning. - Relates to a tenoning - machine in which the end of the stock is cut off by a saw G, the shoulders of the tenon by saws E, F, and the sides of the tenon by saws H, H'. The saw E is carried by an arbor C' mounted in a yoke C<2> adjustable horizontally by a screw C' in a yoke C, which can be raised and lowered by a hand - screw B<4> in an inclined frame B secured to the main frame A. The saw F is fixed to, and the saw G adjustably secured on, an arbor D' mounted in a yoke D, which is reciprocable on the inclined frame B in a similar manner to the yoke C. The saws H, H' are arranged to the rear of the cut-offand shouldering saws on a vertical spindle I carried by a yoke horizontally adjustable in the machine frame. The lower saw H' is fixed to the spindle I, but the upper saw is secured to a sleeve H<2> carried by a screw H<3> working in a threaded bore in the upper end of the spindle, so as to be adjustable. When adjusted, the sleeve H<2> is locked by means of a set-screw H<5>. While being cut, the work is held by a lever O on a table K pivoted to a reciprocating carriage K' supported by rollers running on tracks K<2> carried by a frame K<3>, which is adjustable vertically on guides K<4> by means of a handscrew K<5> and is locked in position by screws K<6>, The table K is normally supported horizontally on the carriage K' by means of a screw carried by a hinged socket N<1>, but it may be held inclined by means of a screw carried by a rod M secured in the split end M<1> of the carriage. The belt driving the arbors C', D<1> is tensioned by a pulley P carried by hangers P<1> pressed downwards by a weighted lever P<3>. The end of the arbor C' carrying the saw E is screwed on the main part, and is provided with an opening C<5> into which a pin may be inserted to hold it stationary while the main part is rotated to remove it. The operation of halving or jointing may be performed by removing two of the saws.
