Abstract

1788. Weigaand, J. Jan. 22. Circular-saw machines.-A mitreing-machine particularly adapted for cutting mitres in doorframe pieces or wooden beams already provided with a mortise, comprises a work-holder 20 reciprocable on guides 19 on the side walls 1 of the machine frame over a circular-saw device consisting of an horizontal saw 10 and two sets of inclined saws 14, 15, mounted at an angle of 45 degrees to the horizontal in bearings 13 which are adjustable towards or away from one another in a fixed guide 12 by means of right and left handed threads on a hand-operated shaft 17. The saws 10, 14 cut the edges of the required mitre, and the saws 15 remove the wood to allow the passage of the spindle 9 of the saw 10. The saws 14, 15 are driven through belts 28, 30 from a main shaft 5 mounted in adjustable bearings on a bracket 3 on the machine frame. The shaft 5 may also drive, through a belt 32, a chain-mortising tool 36. The work-holder 20 consists of a slide provided with holders 21 carrying eccentrically-mounted levers operating jaws 23 to secure the work against a rail. The sawn off pieces of wood are caught in inclined channels and led away from the driving-belts. The sawing-device is normally covered by a guard 26 fixed to the slide 20. Modifications are described, in which the saws are dispensed with and the passage for the spindle 9 is made by (1) two vertical saws, (2) by a grooving-saw mounted at an angle on an horizontal spindle, (3) by a cutter mounted on the spindle 9.
