Abstract

23,950. Trewhella, B. H. Oct. 19. Couplings; loops. -A fitting for forming a loop in the end of a wire rope or for coupling the ends of ropes comprises a metallic casing or band 1 having a longitudinal passage of elongated cross-section, two opposite walls 2 of which are parallel, the other walls 3, 4 being tapered. One wall 3 is smooth and the other 4 is spirally grooved to fit the strands of the rope which is secured in the band 1 by a wedge 6 inserted between the rope portions, one tapered side 8 of the wedge being spirally grooved and the other 7 being smooth. When tension is put on the rope portions, the wedge and casing are moved and tighten the fitting.
