23,363. Hughes, D. Oct. 12. Couplings, non-automatic, of the D-shackle type for colliery trams &c. To prevent the pin a from rising when in the coupling position, the head of the pin is formed with a slot g to receive a cross-pin f of a U-shaped sliding catchpiece c of which the part is adapted to engage beneath the hooked end of a pin c fixed to the upper limb of the D. The catch-piece e is held in this position by a handle-ring b, which, when released, falls to the position shown, with projections i on the ring bearing against projections h on the piece c. When the ring is lifted, projections k carried thereby engage the ends of the piece c and slide it along to disengage the part j from the pin c.
