Abstract
23,300. Rosenberg, A. Oct. 11. Soldering.-A composition for soft-soldering or coating metals consists of a finely-divided metal or metals or alloy, a flux in the dry and undissolved condition, and a vegetable or animal oil, fat, or grease for preventing the metal &c. from being oxidized, and for preventing the formation of double salts thereof. The composition may be made up in stick or paste form. In the former case a non-hygroscopic binding-agent may be added for stiffness, or the composition may be wrapped in strips of cellulose or foil of the same metal as the solder, or squirted into tubes of material such as cellulose which leaves practically no residue on burning away. The fluidity of the paste form depends on the quantity of the oil, grease, or fat present, and the paste may thus be obtained in the form of a paint, particularly for tinning or coating the interior of brewery, distillery, or jam-making vats or utensils in situ. According to the Provisional Specification the flux is anhydrous. Specification 17,624/04, [Class 82, Metals and alloys], is referred to.
