Abstract
22,855. Isherwood, P. C. C. Oct. 7. Zinc sulphate.-Zinc sulphate is obtained by treating zinc ores, which, if sulphides, are roasted, first with less sulphuric acid than corresponds with the zinc and then with a second quantity of acid to dissolve the rest of the zinc under high temperature and pressure, for instance as described in Specification 21,584/09. The solution from the second treatment is added to the acid used for the first treatment of the next batch of ore, any impurities that may be present being precipitated owing to the excess of base present in the first leaching. The solution, free from iron &c., is freed from copper, if present, for instance by treatment with zinc, and is then electrolyzed for the production of zinc and sulphuric acid. The pressure treatment may be carried out in the filter digester described in Specification 4358/09, [Class 46, Filtering &c.].
