Abstract

22,658. Bolton, C. J. Oct. 4. Pottery, turning.-A conical form or chuck 1, for supporting a cup, bowl, or the like 13 while it is being turned, is screwed on a spindle 2 which passes through a table 5 mounted on ball bearings 6. The edge of the cup is shaped, while the cup is raised above the table, by a profile tool carried eccentrically by an horizontal lever spindle 16 supported by a vertical spindle 18. A spring 21 pulls the lever out of action, and stops limit the motion of both spindles. The table is provided with a rubber or leather facing 14 to prevent damage to the edges of the cup when the chuck 1 is lowered and disengaged from the cup. Flanges 11, 12 of the table and bed plate prevent the entrance of grit into the bearings.
