20,461. Goulding, T. Sept. 22. Billiards &c.-A cushion for billiard &c. tables, is constructed as shown in the Figure. The cushion, which rests on a wooden strip e, is formed of india-rubber strips d, d<1>, d', cemented together and to a cushion block. A strip f of brass, vulcanite, &c. is screwed to the block, and is adapted to prevent the cushion from yielding in an. upward direction, thereby causing the reactive force to a ball to be more exactly in a plane parallel to that of the table. The cloth cover h is secured in position by a strip of wood j fitting into a recess k, and a pad of felt p is arranged between the cushion and cover. A metal strip m. may be used for preserving the shape of the cushion, and, in order to reduce the depth of the strips d, a strip o of vulcanite may be secured to the strip e.
