Abstract
20,823. Brindley, H. S. B., and Boiler Scalers, Ltd. Sept. 12. Percussive hand tools.-In percussive cleaners of the kind in which spring-pressed cutters are acted upon by a pneumatic or other hammer, the cutters are pressed outwards by the conical surface of a spring-pressed sleeve. The hammer, of ordinary type, is provided with a central shank c round which independent cutters a are arranged in the mouth of the cylinder or an extension thereof. A sleeve e with conical surface i is pressed by a spring f so as to expand the cutters against their work. To facilitate use in curved tubes, the inner ends of sleeve and cutters are rounded to give some flexibility. The leading end of the sleeve e may be serrated, to serve as an additional cutter. In a modification, the outer surface of each cutter has inclined slots, which provide cutting-edges and cause rotation of the cutters round the shaft c under the action of the hammer.
