Abstract

Dust and the like, excluding.-A detachable cover or casing for the dust-shield of an axlebox for railway and tramway vehicles is secured at the lower part by two tapered projections e, Fig. 1, fitting into tapered recesses b in lugs a on the axle-box, and at the upper part by one or two studs f and split pins h. The cover c has a flange around the top and both sides, fitting closely against the rear face i of the axle-box. The plane of the taper of the parts e, b is either inclined to the back of the box, or as shown at k, Fig. 5, inclined to the side of the box. The projections e may be on the box and the recesses b on the cover c. The stud or studs f may be screwed into the body of the box or fixed in the process of casting the box. In a modification, a headed stud passes through holes in the cover c and in a lug at the top of the box.
