Abstract
17,761. Fellenberg, W. July 31, 1911, [Convention date]. Insulators. -Puncture of high-tension insulators for transformers, machines, switches, &c. is prevented by metal rings, of any cross-section, embedded in the insulator and so disposed as to divert the sparking-path from the insulator substance. In the three-shed insulator shown in Fig. 1, three embedded rings a are employed. A protecting-ring b is also used in large insulators. Discharges from the line are thereby deflected from the direction of puncture towards the support or the metal plate c of the support. Instead of complete rings, separate portions d, Fig. 4, may be employed, in order to deflect the sparking path to some particular region on the insulator away from adjacent apparatus.
