Brake mechanism. - In duplex, triplex, or other multiple brake mechanism for cycles &c., particularly suitable for passing down in front of the head, the rods, movable lengthways of themselves, are disposed one inside the other. Each of the telescoping rods is connected to its respective brake directly, and to the other brakerod with lost motion, so that within the extent of lost motion each brake may be applied separately from its lever. The front-brake rod A<7> connected by an adjustable rod A<2>, A<3> to the crank arm A' upon one lever, telescopes about the portion B<2> of the adjustable rear-brake rod B<2>, B<3>, an eye B<5> on the inner rod passing through a slot A<5> in the outer rod to engage the pivoted stirrup B<6> or the like of the rearbrake connexion. The parts may be arranged so that each brake may be applied independently; or, by adjusting the parts so that the outer rod A<7>, when operated, engages the head B<4> of the inner rod, or the eye engages the top of the slot, one lever may be used to apply its respective brake, and the other lever actuates both sets of mechanism. By screwing the socket B<4> along its rod, adjustment can be made for the interaction of the two brake systems.
