Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and helical springs and pneumatic cushions; spores, securing.-Wheels of the kind in which an outer two-part rigid rim is spring-supported upon an inner rim are characterized by a detachable flange c, Fig. 4, screwing into the outer rim d and locked by set-screws l. The outer rim is fitted with circumferential treadstrips k of metal, leather, rubber, horn, or fibre. In the case of a liquid or air cushion a, filling-rings c are used, and a saddle-piece j; Fig. 8, is fitted to existing rims. Creeping is prevented by cross-bolts g secured to the outer rim which engage the spokes, Fig. 8, or may be connected to the inner rim by pivoted links p, Fig. 6. The heads of wire spokes are sunk in recesses n in the inner metal rim. Helical springs may replace the fluid cushion.
