17,037. Oelenheinz, T., and Meulen, A. A. van der. July 22. Tobacco preparations are obtained from readyfermented tobacco or from the juice of green tobacco. The fermented tobacco is treated with alcohol and then with water, or vice versa, the resultant liquids being mixed together. The green tobacco juice is subjected to processes which are equivalent to the drying and fermentation of the green tobacco leaves. The ' drying' of the juice may be assisted by heating or stirring, and at the completion of the process the juice is freed from the zymotic phenomena by means of a short heating to 80‹ and subsequent cooling, and then fermented by means of a gradual heating. The nicotine in the juice may be eliminated .or bound by known chemical means if desired. The juice may be inoculated with pure cultures of schizomycete such as are found on fermenting or fermented tobacco or the juice may serve as a culture liquid for these bacteria. The preparations may be used alone or mixed, and may be utilized for impregnating or sprinkling low-grade tobacco to improve its quality or as an insecticide. The low grade tobacco, before being treated with the tobacco preparations, may be partially or wholly lixiviated. Specification 15,280/08 is referred to.
