Abstract

14,957. Lorrain, J. G., [Revolute Machine Co.]. June 26. Printing-apparatus with continuous movement of negative and printed surface.-In a printing-machine, the negative and paper move with and between an endless band 18 and a transparent cylinder 5, and the printing-lamps 21 are situated on the side of the cylinder remote from the band 18, which need thus not be transparent. The lamps 21 are fitted with reflectors 22 and are mounted on a swinging support 23, which is fixed in position by the slotted bracket 26. To keep the cylinder cool, air is forced from a blower 27 through a series of holes in a box 28 adjacent to the cylinder. A series of narrow bands 18 may be used and the cylinder is supported by these bands and by additional bands 6 at the edges of the cylinder. The bands 6 are tensioned by springs 10 acting on one of the rollers 7 which is mounted at the end of a pivoted arm 8. The cylinder 5 is prevented from moving sideways by small rollers 38 engaging the edges of the cylinder. The bands 18 are tensioned by the movable roller 16. The roller 13 is mounted on a cocker arm 14 and rotates in contact with the cylinder 5. The band roller 11 is driven from a power shaft and rotates immediately inderneath the cylinder. The sensitized paper from the reel 3 is drawn over a table 32, and together with the negative is fed over the roller 13 and is guided on to the cylinder by a guide plate 33. This plate 33 is mounted on a transverse bar 34 with vertical extensions 37, which are clamped in vertical slots at the end of the arm 14, whereby the plate 33 is vertically adjustable. The plate is also rotatably adjustable and is clamped by a screw 35. The negative and print are stripped from the cylinder by a stripper 30, and pass into the receiving chamber 4.
