Abstract

Sawing.-In machines employing an endless steel wire for sawing rocks, stones, marble, .porphyry, and the like by means of an abrasive substance, pressure is exerted on the wire by a series of undulating superposed metallic strips. The strips 11 are held at each end in forks 12 attached by screw - threaded rods 19 to an end plate 18, the whole arrangement being capable of descending proportionally to the sawing. An oscillating movement is given to the strips by a crank arm 26 actuated by a pinion 28, the rotation of which is caused by a spiral 27 formed on a pulley 4; the crank arm 26 moves in a bearing in a shoulder 24 formed in a rod 21 connected to the plate 18. The position of the forks 12 in relation to the wire 1 is adjusted by screw rods 29, 30, and the position of the pinion in relation to the spiral is adjusted by the rotation of nuts 37 which actuate right and left handed screwthreaded parts connected with the pulley 4 and pinion 28 respectively.
