Abstract

14,506. Aagaard, B. A. June 20. Valves closing with rush of fluid; valves controlled from a distance.-An automatic steam stop-valve 6, Fig. 1, of the type that is selfclosing on the bursting of a pipe &c. is operated by a piston 8 connected on opposite sides at 15' and 19 by a special line of piping 16, Fig. 3, to the boiler 12 and to the main steam-pipe 11 respectively. The two piston chambers 15, 18, Fig. 1, are permanently connected by a small passage 20, which can he regulated so that a continual flow of steam passes through the subsidiary p@ping 16, thereby keeping it hot and free from water of condensation. Fig. 3 shows a number of such valves with two main steampipes 11 in connexion with two groups of boilers 12. Valves 22 may be fitted to close the stopvalves simultaneously, at will, by connecting the subsidiary pipes 16 to the atmosphere or to a condenser through the branches 23. Means may be provided at each stop-valve for manual operation.
