Abstract

13,985. Burns, W. A., and Masson, T. Aug. 30, 1911. Sights.-Relates to lens fore sights for use with aperture back sights and consists (1) in rotatably mounting the lens carrier D on the barrel, or sight-bar, in such a way that it can be brought into the sighting position or can be housed by rotating the carrier about the barrel, or sight-bar; (2) in combining a deviating-prism H, Fig. 4, with the lens C so that the sighting-mark on the lens may be nearer the barrel or sight-bar than the ordinary foresight. In a modification, the prism is dispensed with and the mark is placed nearer the barrel or sight-bar than the optical centre of the lens. The lens carrier D may have an ordinary fore sight G, Figs. 1 and 3, formed on it so that either the lens or the ordinary sight may be rotated into the sighting position. In the modifications shown in Fig. 4, the ordinary fore-sight G is above the lens C in such a way that the target is visible over the fore sight G or through the lens C simultaneously.
