Pencil-holders.-In a combined pencil-holder and rule, the holder part is constructed from a blank A<1>, Fig. 4, having two extensions 12, 13 of semicircular cross-section, the blank being folded so as to form a trough-shaped casing A, Fig. 1, adapted to receive the rule, and the extensions 12, 13 forming a divided socket which is arranged to grip the pencil, for example by a sliding collar 14. The rule, which may be composed of foldable sections, is hinged at 26 to the upper end of the casing A and is held in its closed position by the inturned edges 3 of the casing. A projection 11 is provided at the extreme end of the rule to facilitate disengagement of the rule from the casing. In modifications of the device, the blank A' is folded so as to form a flattened tube with an open end, or a trough-shaped casing with a closed end, and the rule is made detachable and adapted to slide into the open end or side of the casing. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 9, one of the end sections 21 of a foldab'e rule serves as the shank of the holder, and the pencil-gripping device, formed from a blank comprising the halves 12, 13 of a divided socket, is riveted at 22 to the section 21. A spring tongue 23 formed at the rear end of the socket has a small projection 23<1>, which is adapted to engage a hole in the opposite end section of the rule in order to maintain the rule in a folded position.
