Abstract

11,434. Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon. May 26, 1911, [Convention date]. Alternating-current commutator machines.-- The stator winding of a motor of the repulsion type is divided into two sets of coils S<1>, S<3>, Fig. 2, and S<2>, S<4> connected in series, the axis of the larger set of coils S<2>, S<4> coinciding with the axis of the short-circuited working brushes x<1>, x<2>. The motor is reversed by reversing the connexions of the coils S<2>, S<4> by means of a two-pole switch U, and the motor is given a shunt characteristic by connecting a pair of auxiliary brushes y<1>, y<2> in parallel with the coils S<2>, S<4>, either directly or through a twocoil or auto - transformer T. The auxiliary brushes y<1>, y<2> are preferably connected up to the switch U so that the direction of the current through the brushes remains unaltered when the connexions of the coils S<2>, S<4> are reversed. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which the stator has four coil sets connected in series, the ooil sets S<2>, S<6>; S<3>, S<7>; and S<4>, S<8> being reversible, while the auxiliary brushes are connected up directly to the winding part S<3>, S<7>. In this latter arrangement, and also in a further modification employing a transformer having two secondary windings, the motor may be operated as a braking generator after the line current has been cut off. The working brushes x<1>, x<2> may be short - circuited through an additional winding on the transformer T feeding the auxiliary brushes.
