Casting-machines; flasks; moulds.-In apparatus for the vacuum casting of dental and like work, the investment material 19 is held in a cup 16 having a number of holes 17 for the withdrawal of the air and a flange 15 to engage closely the cup 13. This cup 13 is provided with a trap 11 to prevent any metal which leaks through the investment from entering the suction connexions, such metal being removed by unscrewing the cap 9. An asbestos-lined cover 26 is carried by an arm 23 pivoted to a frame 21, which also carries a catch 24 engaging the end of the arm 23. A spring 28 tends to pull down the arm in either direction according as the cup 13 or 14 is being used, and when the cock 3 is opened to exhaust the air into the vacuum chamber, the chain 31 trips the catch 24 and the cover 26 falls on to the cup 16, making an air-tight joint therewith by reason of its yielding connexion 36. By clamping the cover 26 to the other side of the arm and connecting the chain 33 instead of 31, the same device can he used with the cup 14.
