Abstract
9841. Johnson, J. Y., [Badische Anilin & Soda Fabrik]. April 25. Catalytic materials.-A catalyst for use-in the synthesis of ammonia, consisting of pure iron or pure iron nitride, is prepared by passing an excess of ammonia over an iron compound at a temperature materially above 600‹ C. An excess of ammonia is defined to be an amount greater than that which corresponds to the equilibrium concentration for the temperature employed. In an example, a temperature of 800‹ C. is used in conjunction with a quicklymoving current of ammonia gas.
