Abstract

8800. Carriker, J. W. April 13. Runways; trollies for runways; lifting-cradles. -Comprises a turntable crane having a boom N', the ends of which can be independently raised and lowered, so that loads supported by a carriage M running on the boom can be raised and then traversed by gravity either way along the boom. The inner end of the boom is pivoted to blocks sliding in guides in a standard C which turns about a vertical bolt D. The blocks are raised or lowered by ropes passing over pulleys H' at the top of the standard to a drum, which is mounted on the shaft K and is operated through chain gearing and a clutch from the motor shaft K<5>. The outer end of the boom is controlled by a rope S passing over pulleys Q<1>, T to a drum shaft W which is also driven from the motor shaft. Each rope drum has a gravity pawl X which may be released when desired to allow the ropes to pay out. The upper edges of the boom are bevelled to fit V- grooves in the rollers of the carriage M. A platform M' for the goods is suspended from the carriage by wires M<6> passed through holes on the carriage. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 17,451/87, [Class 122, Steam engines], 10,345/94, and 15,523/06.
