8052. Bostell, H. April 3. Rollers.-In a machine for making wrapping- paper having one smooth side, the felt winding- roll F disposed beneath a drying or smoothing cylinder T, Fig. 5, has protecting ribbons c of flexible metal, such as lead, copper, &c. on one or both sides of the middle of the felt a<1>, Fig. 4, forming the surface of the roll, to protect the felt from wear and corrosion by wire or like insertion b' by which the felt is secured on the roll in helical formation. A half-strip of felt d, also protected by a ribbon, may be wound oil the roll, whereby a firmer surface is obtained.
