6128. Ogden, J. March 12. Mills and apparatus.-Apparatus for cutting, grinding, mincing, or pulverizing rubber, leather, cereals, &c., consists of an abrasive plate or disk a, Fig. 3, rotating rapidly beneath and in close proximity to the open bottom of. a. stationary container or hopper c, which is provided with one or more abutments or partitions d extending to within a short distance of the disk, so as to prevent the material from partaking of the movement of the disk and from becoming unduly heated. The abrasive. disk is formed or provided with a large number of cutting - edges extending approximately radially. Additional cooling-means, such as water-jackets, may be provided. The partitions may be at right-angles or inclined to the disk, and may extend only across those parts of the container where the material has the greatest tendency to be rapidly moved. Fig. 6 shows curved or spiral abutments d upon a plate or cover c opposed to the disk a, the material being fed through a central aperture c<1>. Cutting- edges may be formed on the bottoms of the partitions. The cutting-edges on the abrasive plate may take the form of one or more all - over spirals, or of a multiple spiral. Fig. 5 shows a disk formed with spiral cutters a<1> at its central portion, and with sets of cutters a<2> which mav be attached as block-pieces by means of setscrews a<3> so as to be independently removable.
