GRAIN-CRUSHING MILL.
SPECIFICATIO forming part 0f Letters Patent N o. 400,061, dated March 26, 1889.
I Application filed April l2, 1888. Serial No. 270,458. (No model.)
To all 1072/0711, it' may concern:
Beit known that I, JAMES CURTIS, acitizen of the United States, residing at Moscow Mills, in the county of Lincoln and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grain-Crushing Mills; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked the1con,\\fhich form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to produce a crushing-mill in which grain may be prepared for grinding, so as to allow of a more perfect removal of the bran therefrom.
Figure l of the drawings is a plan view of my crushing-mill; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the yoke with the parts attached thereto, the bed-plate and support being in section; and Fig. 3, a detail perspective view of the grainfeeder. Fig. e is a detail sectional view of the feeder.
In the drawings, A represents any suitable support, having the central hole, a, and B a superposed bed-plate, having the corresponding hole, l); rlhis roller-bed is circular, made of cast-iron turned smooth on itsfupper face and surrounded by a fender, C,
D is a yoke attached to a vertical shaft, E, having at the lower end a journal, |E, that turns in the central step-bearing', F, placed across he hole a. On this yoke and around the shaft I secure the grain-hopper G; having branch delivery-spouts g g, discharging into the funnels h h of the grain-'feeders II H.
l I are diametrieally-opposite crushing-rolls jou rn aled in the yoke-bearings d and the shaftbearings e, d rolls being trued on their working faces and inclined gradually from the outer to the inner end...
J is a fixed cross-bar passing through the shaft E, rotating with the same, extending radially equal distances from the shaft on cach side, and supported in bearii'xgs It 7L of the Scrapers K, attached to t-he feed-chambers H. The function of the scrapers K is to push the. crushed grain toward the holes a l), through which it descends to subjacent receptacles and thence to crushing-rolls.
L L are spring-braces fastened on the crossbar J, so as to keep the feed ers II and scrapers K in position on the bed B. As the shaft E is revolved by any suitable mechanism, the cross-bar J carries the feeders II always in advance of and at the same distance from the rollers I. The feeders H in their movement carry the Scrapers K at the rear of the crushing-rolls. The feeders II carry projections h2 hwhich iit snugly under the rolls at each side, so as to prevent any lateral escapement of the grain. As these feeders I-I are carried in ad- Vance of the rolls, they feed a thin layer of grain through the bottom slot, h3, to the rolls, so that the crushing maybe done thoroughly and with uniformity.
Over the rear side of the rolls I, I arrange the magnetized Scrapers M on elast ic arms M', so as to clear the surfaces of the rolls of any adhering grain and yield to any obstruction.
Having thus described all thatisnecessary to a full understandin g of my inventioinwhat I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
l. A grain-crusherfeed-box, H, constructed with the hopper h, bearing h,'concave projections. h2, and opening h3, in combination with a graincrushing roll, I, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a grain-crusher, an upright shaft, yoke, crushing-rolls, and arms J, mounted on said upright shaft, in combination with the arms L, pivotally fastened to the arms J of Scrapers, and feed-boxes pivotally mounted on opposite sides of said arms L, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES CURTIS.
